Term 2 Week 4

It's the letter p!

 

 

We guessed what we were covering our letter p with by using our senses, especially our hearing and smell.  Once it started making popping noises we knew it was popcorn!

 

 

 

We made pizza!  Not real pizza unfortunately but some of them still looked pretty tasty!  Because they were pretend pizza's we could use our imaginations and cover them with anything we wanted.

 

 

We also had a look at a pumpkin and some potatoes. Mrs B used them to make a delicious pumpkin soup. Yummmm!

 

We have created a number line.  It is going to help us get better at counting numbers.  We tried to put it in order from the smallest number up to the highest number.  It was pretty tricky.

 

 

 

Then we used the numbers to show how many people there were.  We went from 1....

 

...all the way up to 23.  Which one has more people?

We are very busy getting ready for our prayer service on Thursday next week.  We talked about what we thing God had the most fun creating and drew a picture of it.  Keep an eye out for these on the walls at our prayer service.

Term 2 Week 3

Jumping Jellybeans, it's the letter j!

We covered our letter j with jellybeans.

We made jiggly jelly. 

 

 

 We counted jellybeans before we ate them.

 

 

 

We have been learning how to measure how tall something is by comparing it with other things.  It is important to make sure you start from the same spot so you can see which one is taller.  We put pictures of us and our classmates in order from shortest to tallest.

This week we had a visit from a paramedic.  She taught us what to do in an emergency.

After learning about how God created the world we decided to create our own wonderful world.  We have painted the sea, sky and land.

Term 2 Week 1 and 2

Welcome to Term 2!

The children have come back refreshed and raring to go.  This term we will be learning about our wonderful world.

We have been learning about the letter 'i'.  It makes the 'i' as in itch sound.

We covered our i's with ink and blew it with straws.

We made indian hats....

 

and became Indians for a day.

This term we will be having computer lessons in the library.  By the end of this term Miss R expects us to be able to log on to the computers using our username and password by ourselves.

 

We went on a walk through the school to find living and non living things.  Living things need food and water and they grow.  Non living things don't need food and water and usually don't grow.

 

                                     

 

We used an app called pic collage to create a poster of living or non living things.  It was great fun to pinch the pictures and watch them grow and shrink.  We could also move them around to wherever we wanted them to go. We used the pictures we took around the school.  Stay tuned to see some of our posters.

We also created a living and non living poster by cutting pictures out of magazines.

 

 

After reading the story of creation from the Bible and watching a video we decided to create our own video of how the world was created.  We are up to the part where God created creatures so some of us made animal masks we could wear in our video.

Our buddies came to visit us this afternoon.  We had to collect a certain number of objects such as leaves or honky nuts in the playground.  When we had the right number we got to tell our buddy how many they had to collect.  Thanks for coming Year 5's.
