Term 4 Week 1 and 2 and 3

My apologies for the slow post.  The start of term 4 has been very busy and I suspect may continue that way as we race towards the end of the year.

Here are a few snapshots of what we got up to in our first three weeks back.

We now have a Book Café in our classroom.

Building airports, houses and planes.

Our dentist is turning into a hairdressers. Mr CW was looking very smart by the time he walked out!

We have started learning different ways to read.  We have started by learning how to read to ourselves.  We call this Read to Self.  When we read to self we need to;
* sit in our own space
* use quiet voices
* concentrate and read the book the whole time

We are talking about how we can get better at reading to ourselves.  We need to improve our stamina. If we have good stamina we can do things for longer. If we practice doing read to self our stamina will get a little bit better each time.  So far we can read for 7 minutes.

In maths we have been learning to add two groups of numbers together.  We have learnt that when you add two numbers together the answer will be bigger than the numbers we started with.

In computer we had another go at using the Paint program.  We created pictures and then printed them out.

We have been investigating Australian animals.  There are some animals that you can only find in Australia, like kangaroos and koalas.

We collaged our own Australian animals.

This week we are researching an Australian animal.  We are using the pictures in non fiction books to give us information about where our chosen animal lives and what it eats.  We are using that information to paint a home for our animal.

We are going to share what we have learnt about Australian animals with our new friends in Texas.

Miss R has linked up with a lovely school in Texas and we are going to learn from each other.  We are going to teach them about Australian animals and they will teach us about American animals.  We have already learnt lots of new things from them. You can check out what we are sharing by clicking on the link in the box at the top right of the blog.

In our PATHS time we have been learning what to do if someone does something that makes us angry or sad.  Twiggle taught us how to do turtle.  Here is what we do;
1  Stop and go into your shell
2  Take a big, deep breath
3  Tell what the problem is.

We acted out some times when we could use turtle to help us solve a problem.

We continued our research by finding out the features of our Australian animal.  We then used that to create our animal from clay.  When they are dry we will be able to paint them and put them into the home we created for them.

This is one of our new maths activities.  It helps us practice numbers that come before and after other numbers.
